Pound test tells you when a line should break. It does not tell you how thick it is, how it sits on a spool, or whether the next batch will behave the same way. For anyone buying line as a raw material, those three things matter more than the number on the label.
Ask for the diameter, not just the rating
Diameter drives casting distance, how much line fits on a reel, and how visible it is in the water. Two 30 lb braids can differ by 0.03 mm — which changes spool capacity noticeably. Always ask for the measured diameter in millimetres, and ask what tolerance the factory holds.
Ask how the rating was measured
A rating is only meaningful if it is tested. Ask whether every batch is pull-tested, and whether you can see the data. Our own measured breaks run 5–10% above the label rating, which is the direction you want the error to run.
Ask about batch-to-batch consistency
If you tie rigs or run a spooling service, drift between batches shows up in your finished product. Consistency comes from owning the process end to end — spinning, braiding, dyeing and coating on one floor — rather than buying semi-finished line and re-spooling it.
